Telehealth Visit Guide

How to get ready for your SendSlim video or phone visit.

This page explains how to prepare for your telehealth visit, what to have ready, and what to expect before, during, and after your appointment with SendSlim Clinic.

1. Before Your Visit

Check Your Location

SendSlim can only treat patients who are physically in:

  • California, or

  • Nevada

at the time of the visit.

If you will be outside these states during your appointment, please reschedule for a time when you will be back in California or Nevada.

Choose the Right Device

You can join your telehealth visit using:

  • A smartphone (iPhone or Android)

  • A tablet

  • A laptop or desktop computer

Make sure your device has:

  • A camera (for video visits)

  • A microphone

  • Enough battery or plugged into power

Internet & Phone Connection

For the best visit:

  • Use a strong Wi-Fi signal if possible

  • If using mobile data, try to be in a place with good reception

  • Close other apps or browser tabs that use lots of data (like streaming video)

If your internet is weak, we may switch to a phone call if it is safe and allowed.

Find a Quiet, Private Space

Pick a place where you:

  • Can talk openly and privately

  • Will not be interrupted by other people, pets, or loud noise

  • Have enough light so your clinician can see you clearly (if on video)

You may have a trusted support person with you if you like (partner, family member), but that is your choice.

What to Have Ready

Before your visit starts, please gather:

  • Photo ID (driver’s license or other ID)

  • A list of your current medications

    • Include prescription medicines

    • Over-the-counter meds (like ibuprofen, allergy pills)

    • Vitamins and supplements

  • Your allergies (medication or food)

  • Your preferred pharmacy name and location

  • Any recent lab results (if you have them)

  • Your insurance card if you plan to use it for labs or medications (even though visits are cash-pay)

If you have home health tools, please also have:

  • Your weight (from today or this week)

  • Your blood pressure and heart rate, if you have a home monitor

  • Your blood sugar readings, if you check them at home

Complete Forms Ahead of Time

If we send you:

  • Intake forms

  • Consent forms

  • Questionnaires

please fill them out before your visit. This helps your clinician spend more time talking with you and less time typing basic details.

2. Joining Your Telehealth Visit

Step 1 – Open the Link

Before your appointment, you will receive:

  • An email and/or text message with your visit link, or

  • Instructions from the patient portal

A few minutes before your visit:

  1. Open the email, text, or portal message.

  2. Click the visit link (for video) or follow the call instructions.

Step 2 – Allow Camera & Microphone

If prompted, click “Allow” so your browser or app can use:

  • Your camera

  • Your microphone

If you have trouble:

  • Try closing and reopening the link

  • Make sure no other app is using your camera

  • Switch to another browser or device if needed

Step 3 – Wait in the “Virtual Waiting Room”

Once you join:

  • You may see a virtual waiting room screen

  • Your clinician will join you as soon as they are ready

If it has been more than 10–15 minutes past your time and no one has joined:

  • Exit and rejoin once

  • If that doesn’t help, use the Contact page or patient portal for help

3. During Your Visit

Be Honest and Complete

Your clinician will ask about:

  • Your medical history

  • Your weight history and past diets

  • Your current medicines and supplements

  • Your goals, worries, and daily habits

  • Any symptoms you have

Please answer honestly and completely.
We can only make safe choices if we know the real picture.

What Your Clinician May Do

During your visit, your clinician may:

  • Review your weight and vital signs (if available)

  • Look at past lab results

  • Order new labs or tests if needed

  • Talk about lifestyle changes (food, movement, sleep, stress)

  • Discuss medication options, including risks and benefits

  • Create or adjust your treatment plan

You can ask as many questions as you need.
If something is not clear, ask your clinician to explain it in simpler words.

Take Notes

It may help to:

  • Keep a notepad or notes app open

  • Write down:

    • The names of any new medicines

    • How and when to take them

    • Any labs or tests ordered

    • Your next steps and follow-up plan

You can always review your visit summary in the patient portal later, but notes can help you remember details right away.

4. After Your Visit

Checking Your Plan

After your visit:

  • Your clinician may write a visit summary

  • They may send new prescriptions to your chosen pharmacy

  • They may place lab orders for you to complete

You can usually see these in your patient portal.

Getting Labs Done

If labs were ordered:

  • You will be told where you can go (which lab)

  • Ask the lab about insurance and cash prices

  • Follow any fasting instructions if needed (for example, not eating for 8–12 hours before a blood test)

Once your results come back:

  • Your clinician will review them

  • You may get a message, or you may go over results in your next visit

Refills and Follow-Ups

For refills and follow-up care:

  • Keep your follow-up appointments as scheduled

  • Request refills using the patient portal or your pharmacy (if allowed)

  • Do not wait until you are completely out of medicine

We may sometimes require:

  • A follow-up visit

  • Updated labs

before refilling certain medicines for safety reasons.

When to Send a Portal Message

Use the patient portal for:

  • Mild side effects you want to ask about

  • Simple questions about your plan or instructions

  • Non-urgent questions about medication or labs

We usually answer during normal business hours.
We are not a 24/7 emergency service.

5. When to Use Telehealth vs. When to Call 911

Telehealth Is Good For:

  • Non-urgent visits about weight and related health issues

  • Reviewing and adjusting your weight-loss plan

  • Talking about side effects that are mild or moderate

  • Discussing new labs or tests

  • Asking questions about your medicines (when you are otherwise stable)

Call 911 or Go to the ER If You Have:

  • Chest pain or trouble breathing

  • Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; trouble breathing; hives with trouble breathing)

  • Sudden weakness, trouble speaking, confusion, or vision loss

  • Severe, sudden headache

  • Vomiting that will not stop and you cannot keep down fluids

  • Thoughts of harming yourself or others

  • Any symptom that feels severe, scary, or life-threatening

Do not wait for a telehealth appointment or portal reply in these situations.

  • Join 5–10 minutes early to test your camera and sound

  • Use headphones if you share a space and want more privacy

  • Have kids or pets settled so you can focus

  • Have a glass of water nearby

  • Keep your medication bottles near you if you might need to show or read them
