Telehealth Visit Guide

Telehealth Visit Guide

How to get ready for your SendSlim visit

Everything to prepare for your video or phone visit — what to have ready, how to join, and what to expect before, during, and after.

1

Before your visit

📍 Check your location. By law, we can only treat patients physically located in a state where we’re licensed at the time of the visit. If you’ll be elsewhere during your appointment, please reschedule for a time you’ll be back in a covered state. You’ll see the current state list when you book.
💻 Choose the right device

Join from a smartphone (iPhone or Android), a tablet, or a laptop/desktop. Make sure it has a camera (for video), a microphone, and enough battery or is plugged in.

📶 Internet & phone connection
  • Use a strong Wi-Fi signal if possible
  • On mobile data, be somewhere with good reception
  • Close other apps or tabs that use lots of data (like streaming)

If your internet is weak, we may switch to a phone call if it’s safe and allowed.

🤫 Find a quiet, private space

Pick somewhere you can talk openly and privately, won’t be interrupted by people, pets, or noise, and have enough light so your clinician can see you (on video). You may have a trusted support person with you if you like — that’s your choice.

📋 What to have ready

  • Photo ID (driver’s license or other ID)
  • A list of your current medications — prescriptions, over-the-counter (ibuprofen, allergy pills), vitamins, and supplements
  • Your allergies (medication or food)
  • Your preferred pharmacy name and location
  • Any recent lab results (if you have them)
  • Your insurance card if you’ll use it for labs or medications (visits are cash-pay)

If you have home health tools, also have your recent weight, blood pressure/heart rate, and blood sugar readings if you check them.

📝 Complete forms ahead of time

If we send intake forms, consent forms, or questionnaires, please fill them out before your visit. This lets your clinician spend more time talking with you and less time typing basic details.

Joining your telehealth visit

1

Open the link

You’ll get a visit link by email and/or text, or instructions in the patient portal. A few minutes before your visit, open it and click the link (video) or follow the call instructions.

2

Allow camera & mic

If prompted, click “Allow” for your camera and microphone. Trouble? Close and reopen the link, make sure no other app is using your camera, or switch browser/device.

3

Virtual waiting room

You may see a waiting-room screen; your clinician joins when ready. If it’s been 10–15 minutes past your time, exit and rejoin once — if that doesn’t help, use the Contact page or portal.

3

During your visit

💬 Be honest and complete

Your clinician will ask about your medical history, weight history and past diets, current medicines and supplements, your goals and daily habits, and any symptoms. Please answer honestly and completely — we can only make safe choices if we know the real picture.

🩺 What your clinician may do
  • Review your weight and vital signs (if available)
  • Look at past lab results
  • Order new labs or tests if needed
  • Talk about lifestyle changes (food, movement, sleep, stress)
  • Discuss medication options, including risks and benefits
  • Create or adjust your treatment plan

You can ask as many questions as you need. If something isn’t clear, ask your clinician to explain it in simpler words.

✏️ Take notes

Keep a notepad or notes app open and write down any new medicines (and how/when to take them), labs or tests ordered, and your next steps. You can also review your visit summary in the patient portal later.

4

After your visit

📄 Checking your plan

Your clinician may write a visit summary, send new prescriptions to your chosen pharmacy, and place lab orders. You can usually see these in your patient portal.

🔬 Getting labs done

If labs were ordered, you’ll be told which lab to use. Ask about insurance and cash prices, and follow any fasting instructions (for example, not eating 8–12 hours before a blood test). Once results return, your clinician reviews them and you’ll get a message or discuss them at your next visit.

🔄 Refills and follow-ups

Keep your follow-up appointments, and request refills through the portal or your pharmacy (where allowed). Don’t wait until you’re completely out of medicine. For safety, we may require a follow-up visit or updated labs before refilling certain medicines.

✉️ When to send a portal message

Use the patient portal for mild side effects you want to ask about, simple questions about your plan, and non-urgent questions about medication or labs. We usually answer during normal business hours — we are not a 24/7 emergency service.

When to use telehealth vs. call 911

Telehealth is good for

  • Non-urgent visits about weight and related health
  • Reviewing and adjusting your weight-loss plan
  • Mild or moderate side effects
  • Discussing new labs or tests
  • Questions about your medicines when you’re otherwise stable

Call 911 or go to the ER if you have

  • Chest pain or trouble breathing
  • Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat)
  • Sudden weakness, trouble speaking, confusion, or vision loss
  • Severe, sudden headache
  • Vomiting that won’t stop and you can’t keep down fluids
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or others
  • Any symptom that feels severe, scary, or life-threatening

Do not wait for a telehealth appointment or portal reply in these situations.
