Step-by-Step

How SendSlim Works: Step by Step

From online sign-up to follow-up care, one simple path.

This page walks you through exactly what happens when you start with SendSlim Clinic—from your first click, to your first visit, to labs, medications (if safe), and follow-up care. Our goal is to make every step clear, simple, and safe.

Step 1 – Start Online

You begin from home, on your phone or computer.

  1. Go to our Start Your SendSlim Program page.

  2. Create your account or log in. Then pick a date and time for your telehealth visit and pay for your appointment

  3. Fill out the online intake form, which asks about:

    • Your medical history

    • Your medications and allergies

    • Your past weight-loss attempts

    • Your goals and concerns

This form usually takes about 10–15 minutes.
The more honest and complete you are, the better we can help you.

✅ You must be 18 or older and located in California or Nevada for us to treat you.

Step 2 – Your First Telehealth Visit

You meet your clinician by video or phone.

On the day of your visit:

  • Join using the secure link we send by email, text, or through the patient portal.

  • Make sure you are in a quiet, private place in California or Nevada.

During the visit, your clinician will:

  • Review your intake form and ask follow-up questions

  • Talk about your health, weight history, and lifestyle

  • Ask what you’ve tried before and what has or hasn’t worked

  • Check for warning signs or conditions that affect safety

  • Talk about possible next steps (labs, lifestyle changes, and maybe medication)

This visit usually lasts 45–60 minutes.

You and your clinician will agree on a first plan that fits your life as much as possible.

Step 3 – Labs & Checks (If Needed)

We may order labs to keep you safe.

Depending on your health, your clinician may order blood tests such as:

  • Blood sugar (like A1c)

  • Kidney and liver function

  • Cholesterol and triglycerides

  • Thyroid tests

  • Other labs based on your history

You will:

  1. Go to a local lab to get your blood drawn (we send the order electronically or give you a form).

  2. The lab will bill you or your insurance separately.

  3. Results are sent securely back to your SendSlim clinician.

Labs help us:

  • Make sure your body can safely handle certain medications

  • Look for hidden problems (like diabetes, thyroid issues, or fatty liver)

  • See your “before” picture so we can track your progress over time

Sometimes we can use recent labs from your primary care provider instead of repeating everything.

Step 4 – Your Personal Plan

You get a clear plan based on your body and your goals.

Once we have enough information (from your visit and labs), your clinician will:

  • Confirm whether weight-loss medication is safe and appropriate for you

  • Recommend changes for:

    • Food and eating patterns

    • Movement and daily activity

    • Sleep and stress

  • Talk about steps that feel realistic for your life—not just “ideal world” rules

If medication is used:

  • You’ll talk about risks, benefits, and alternatives

  • You’ll learn how and when to take it

  • You’ll learn what side effects to watch for and when to contact us or call 911

If medication is not used:

  • We explain why

  • We focus on lifestyle, other tools, and medical issues that can still improve your health

Step 5 – Pharmacy & Labs Follow-Through

You complete the practical steps.

After your plan is made, you may need to:

  • Pick up your prescription at your chosen pharmacy

  • Go to the lab for any blood work

  • Start tracking:

    • Weight (scale at home)

    • Symptoms and side effects

    • Any changes in your mood, energy, or sleep

Medication and labs are not included in SendSlim visit fees and are usually billed by the pharmacy or lab directly.

If anything is confusing at this stage, you can:

  • Send a non-urgent portal message

  • Save questions for your next visit

Step 6 – Follow-Up Visits

We check in and adjust your plan.

Follow-up visits are usually 20–30 minutes by video or phone.

At each follow-up, we will:

  • Review your weight and symptom changes

  • Look at any new lab results

  • Ask about side effects if you’re on medications

  • Update your plan (medications, doses, lifestyle steps)

  • Celebrate progress—scale changes and non-scale wins (energy, clothing fit, labs, etc.)

You can choose:

  • Single follow-up visits when needed, or

  • An ongoing monthly plan for more regular support

Your clinician will help you decide how often to follow up based on your health and your goals.

Step 7 – Long-Term Care & When We Say “No”

We are honest, even when it’s hard.

Over time, we may:

  • Continue your medicine if it is safe and helping

  • Change your medicine or dose if needed

  • Stop a medicine if:

    • It causes bad side effects

    • It is not helping enough

    • New health information makes it unsafe

We may also say no when:

  • A medicine is not safe for your health

  • You ask for a dose that we feel is too risky

  • You want a type of care that is outside our training or license

If that happens, we will explain why and try to offer other options when possible.
Safety always comes first.

Step 8 – What Telehealth Can and Can’t Do

Telehealth can help a lot—but not with everything.

Telehealth can:

  • Help you start and follow a medical weight-loss plan

  • Review labs and adjust medications

  • Guide lifestyle changes and answer questions

  • Save you trips to a clinic

Telehealth cannot:

  • Provide emergency care

  • Replace all in-person exams and procedures

  • Handle very complex conditions that need specialist, in-person management

We will tell you when you need:

  • To see your primary care provider

  • To see a specialist

  • To go to urgent care or the emergency room

When to Use SendSlim vs. When to Call 911

SendSlim is great for:

– Non-urgent weight and health visits

– Questions about your treatment plan

– Moderate side effects that are not life-threatening

– Adjusting medicines and lifestyle steps over time

Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if you have:

– Chest pain or trouble breathing

– A severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; trouble breathing)

– Stroke signs: sudden weakness, trouble speaking, confusion, or vision loss

– Vomiting that will not stop

– Thoughts of harming yourself or others

– Any symptom that feels severe, scary, or life-threatening

Do not wait for a telehealth appointment or a message in those cases.
